It's a pity that the government will be dropping from its first parliamentary reading the proposed new Section 88A, which was intended to prevent unilateral conversion of minor children by any one parent from the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) (Amendment) Bill 2016.

The ulama and ultra conservative Islamic bloc might believe that amendment militates against matters Islamic, but I have to ask them: Does Allah swt want 'cradle snatching' to broaden the Islamic Ummah?
That's basically an insult to the dignity and honour of Islam!

But alas, now it's still possible for sneaky scoundrels to misuse Islam to gain an upper hand over the non-Muslim spouse via a stealthy attack, namely by the scoundrel's preemptive and exploitative conversion to Islam, for his or her personal advantage and not for any sincere belief in Allah swt.
We know that many non-Malays have exploited the associated benefits of the Malay religion by converting to Islam, but principally for custody of children in an unhappy almost-failing marriage, inheritance of property via Islamic laws and gaining from the Bumiputera-Muslim programs.

Such exploitative scoundrels must be curtailed or better, stopped. Why admit them to the fold of Islam?
