The Malaysian Insight - MACC warns Ramkarpal for defending Guan Eng’s ‘illegal detention’ remark (extracts):

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today warned Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh against issuing statements on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s remark on the illegal detention of the Penang executive councillor Phee Boon Poh.

MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad said Ramkarpal risks defaming the anti-graft body.

“Yesterday, Ramkarpal issued a press statement in his capacity as a member of parliament and not as Guan Eng’s lawyer and I went through it.

“So, I would like to advise Ramkarpal to be careful in making such a statement as it contains defamatory elements,” said Dzulkifli.

On Lim and the 48-hour demand for him to apologise, Dzulkifli said MACC will proceed to sue him.

MACC should behave like an anti corruption agency instead of a litigious private individual.

In Westminster democracies, public service bodies do NOT go around threatening and suing any member of the public, for the benefit of 'accountability', where the element of doubt must always be conferred upon the public member who complains about it.

If a public institution like the MACC threatens to sue the pants off a member of the public who complains or criticises it, who then will dare to, complain or criticise it, that is. Then how do we keep the 'bastards honest'?

'Keeping the bastards honest' is a popular political expression in Australia, with the target of 'bastards to be kept honest' being the politicians in parliament. By extension we can include civil (public) servants among them.

This Dzulkifli Ahmad character seems trigger happy, in first threatening Lim GE and in now warning Ramkarpal for possibly defaming it.

Doesn't he know he is a public servant? Doesn't he know that he uses taxpayers funds when he sues people?

And where the pucks is Lim Kit Siang, best friend of the MACC?
