Nurul running to no safe place

Bad news again for Nurul Izzah.

She'll be abandoning her old constituency Lembah Pantai as long predicted due to Raja Nong Chik's effort and political investment in said constituency for almost 5 years. Raja Nong Chik has thus become a clear & present danger to Nurul.

Some said she'll go to Permatang Pauh to seek political safety and sanctuary, whilst some suggested she contests in Pandan, a PKR constituency won by Rafizi Ramli in 2013 when the MCA kow-tim-rised Ong Tee Keat.

Ong won Pandan in 2008 but despite being the most popular MCA president at that time (according to a poll) did not contest in 2013 due to sabotage by his own party MCA. UMNO, especially Hishamuddin, also didn't like him as he was far too honest and blunt for the uber-Malay party's liking.

Former MCA president Chua Soi Lek's greatest wrong to the Chinese Malaysians was, no wakakaka not his personal life, but his political destruction of his rival  Ong Tee Keat, as mentioned, probably the most popular MCA leader among Chinese Malaysians in 2012-3. Wee Ka Siong was also in that cabal which saw the marginalisation and destruction of Ong Tee Keat.

Why Ong Tee Keat is worth supporting and saving!

Ong Tee Keat was once described in a Malaysiakini article by columnist Neil Khor, my fellow Penangite and an erudite writer, when then Khor aptly titled his article ‘Fatal Purity’, no doubt borrowed from the title of a book by Ruth Scurr who wrote of Maximilien Robespierre.

A quick synopsis of the book in The Observer said: 'Fatal purity' refers to his [Robespierre] reputation for probity in politics and domestic affairs. His nickname in Paris, deserved by all accounts, was 'the Incorruptible'.

He sought power for no reason other than to liberate the people of France from tyranny. He was obsessed with the idea of virtue, in politics and in private, although somehow that didn't stop him sending hundreds of people to their deaths.

And that was what probably gave the sh*ts to Najib and UMNO about Ong. I’ve just read a Malaysiakini letter which stated [extracts]:

Support for Ong Tee Keat, with his agenda of a clean and accountable government would force the same onto MCA, and therefore onto the entire Malaysian political landscape.

I see this as a turning point for Malaysia and as a foreign businessperson this is good news - it's good for business! […]

So the outcome of the MCA EGM, far from being just an internal leadership tussle, I think will have a major impact on all of Malaysia.

So, at least for now, Ong Tee Keat has an important symbolic role to play which helps the current Umno and BN leadership to continue with a progressive political mandate.

Alas, it was not too be. But it could or might have force UMNO to stand in line with a purity fanatic like Ong Tee Keat.

Rafizi, who won't contest in GE14 due to his criminal conviction and likely imprisonment, boasted that even a PKR cat can win in Pandan.

I suspect that Nurul will contest in Permatang Pauh whilst her mom moves down to Selangor to contest in Pandan, and also as she wants, to be near hubby.

Pandan is today more unknown than the time Rafizi contested in 2013, because the DAP in Pandan which supported Rafizi, has closed down en masse a few months ago. It's a DAP internal problem, but it's possible the Chinese support there may be a bit iffy though it's not to say there won't be any for the PKR candidate standing there in GE14.

But compared to Pandan, Permatang Pauh will be far more iffy because PAS has decided it wants to contest in its old traditional seat before Anwar ripped it off PAS. Singapore Straits Times has reported:
Penang PAS (Parti Islam SeMalaysia) Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has been as chosen to contest the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat held by opposition leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The announcement was made by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang during a ceramah at the party's headquarters in Pongsu Seribu here. [...]

Dr Wan Azizah, 64 year-old president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), retained the Permatang Pauh seat with a reduced majority of 8841 votes, with a vote count of 30316 in a by-election in 2015.

Dr Wan has an on-off luck in Permatang Pauh when in 2004 she managed to win by a razor-thin margin but only AFTER 3 re-counts. She did much better in 2008 and 2013, but we need to remember that was when PAS started to back her.

But now that PAS will deny any PKR candidate in Permatang Pauh of both support and their votes, Nurul if thinking of standing in PP may again be in grave danger.

I recommend Lim Guan Eng sacrifices and gifts her his blue-ribbon Bagan constituency, as Nurul has often been touted as a future PM, which only a Malay may be, and concentrate on his Ayer Itam state seat - after all he is the CM and may wish to continue being CM of Penang, or alternatively he may well be in prison again. And besides, he can set a good example to Dr Boo, wakakaka.
